These playful earrings are made from Labradorite cabochons, hand-cut and shaped by the artist, adorned with a 7mm Labradorite set in a Fine silver bezel. This compound cabochon is prong mounted in a Sterling silver stud setting. The components are hand-formed and shaped, bearing the marks and intricacies of handcrafting.

THESE EARRINGS ARE INSPIRED BY SONDOS ABU JARAD (age 19).

When we first discussed doing a series of pieces inspired by Sondos and her siblings, I asked her what information she would like me to share about each of them. She requested that I share with the world some of their hopes and dreams for their future.

Sondos has a drive and determination that is astounding for a woman of her age. She is a passionate student with a gift for languages. She dreams of achieving high marks in her studies and going to university to complete an education in the field of the English language. A dream that, based on all of my exchanges with her, it is clear that she will absolutely thrive at, if only she could be given the chance.

At present, her immediate dreams are much more simple. She and her family have been living for months with absolutely no shelter (they lost their tent and all their possessions in an occupation attack on their refugee camp) and she hopes to raise enough funds to purchase a new tent for her family so that they might have some small respite from the sun and the ability to heal from repeated cases of sunstroke. Once this most immediate need is met, she hopes to save enough for school fees and supplies so that she can return to her studies at one of the makeshift schools being set up by the Ministry of Education. Until that time, she continues to study on her own so that she won’t fall behind and so that she can continue moving toward her ultimate dream of attending university.
